After three years of planning and fundraising, the Madison School, wheelchair accessible play structure is now completed. Our old wooden play structure had to be razed due to safety issues and the fact that it did not accommodate the needs of children with physical disabilities.
The staff and parent group worked diligently at several fundraisers to accumulate enough money to build the new structure. It was a long and arduous task that could not have been achieved without the generosity of civic groups, chartable organizations individual contributors. The Skillman Foundation awarded us a grant for $40,000 which finally enabled us to begin construction. Other organizations that gave us monetary donations include: Young Woman's Home Association, The Colina Foundation, Melvindale Slovene American Club, Nights of Columbus, Independent Order of Foresters Court Camelot 1557, Father Alfred Saylor Council, No. 3374, World Heritage Foundation, Roosevelt High School Athletic Boosters, Mr. and Mrs. Lizyness, Barcelona Caravan #143, Maple Leaf Lodge, No. 62, Mr. & Mrs. Philip Atkinson and Mr. Skip Clack. I would again like to thank all of the staff members, parents and relatives that supported our fund raising efforts for this major project.
